Destination Hike: Sam Knob, Find High Elevation Fall Color

The weather seems to finally have taken a turn towards fall after last week's scorching hot temperatures, and now that it's starting to feel like autumn, it's the perfect time to start thinking about planning fall color hikes. (Times photos by Alex Perri)

One of my favorite things about living in Transylvania County is the ability to stretch out fall by seeking out its first signs up at higher elevations and progressively moving further down the mountain to extend the peak color hiking season.

If you're planning on tackling some higher elevation hikes this season, now is the time to go.

This weekend I took a trip up to Sam Knob off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the leaves were all beginning to turn colors. The misty weather made for no visibility once we reached the summit, but the conditions brought a brand new experience to a well-love...
