Public schools in North Carolina have been in session now eight weeks – nearly a quarter of the school year – and it has been more than 100 days since Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper presented a compromise budget to the Republican-led General Assembly. While the state House overrode the governor’s veto in a controversial session, the state Senate has yet to either vote for an override or negotiate with the governor.
