Cantrell Creek

Every week some group of volunteers is engaged in an activity that benefits this county and its residents. While space does not allow us to mention all of them, one of the more impressive and long-term efforts was the completion of the Cantrell Creek project in the Pisgah National Forest.

With the ever-increasing popularity of our national and state forests, trail overuse has resulted in some degradation of public lands and streams. In the case of Cantrell Creek, the trail was eroding into the creek and riparian vegetation, which helps hold the streambank in place, was being destroyed.
