More Support For ALDI

October 24, 2019

I read Helen Coomer’s opinion article in the Oct. 13, 2019 issue of The Times and couldn’t agree more with her urging the city to do whatever they can to move forward quickly to bring an ALDI store to our community.

I also drive to Arden to do the majority, not all, of my shopping at ALDI as it has saved me $50-$100/month in grocery costs. For example, a pound of organic spring greens - enough for four or more dinner salads - is currently $4.19. A 4 oz. log of goat cheese is $2.99. A pound of hardwood smoked bacon is less than $4. Baby puffs are $1.19. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are $1.89/pound Milk is $1.80 a gallon. This is well over $10 in savings from our local grocery stores.

These types of prices make a middle class family’s budget stretch a lot farther and there are a lot of us in this county. There are many families with young and school-age children and seniors who are not income eligible for programs like WIC, SNAP and the like, but we have to really pay attention to every dollar spent to stay within our budget.

Please, whoever has influence to make this happen, make an ALDI happen sooner rather than later.
