Hawkins: Court Decision Is Top Priority – Transylvania County, NC

Commission Chairman Mike Hawkins said making short-term and long-terms decisions about the courthouse “needs to be at the top of the list” of his board’s priorities.

Hawkins made the comments during the Board of Commissioners’ recent meeting after it was revealed ceiling plaster had fallen in the courthouse’s main public stairwell during the weekend of Oct. 26-27.

No one was injured as the building was empty. County staff and contractors worked through the night of Oct. 27, so court operations could be held on Monday, according to County Manager Jaime Laughter. An asbestos repor...
