From a purely economic perspective, County Commission Chairman Mike Hawkins was correct when he stated last week that the decision to apply for a grant to help pay for a sewer line from Rosman to Gaia Herbs is “the most important thing” the county commission has done this year.

From a wage standpoint, the local economy has not recovered from the closures of Ecusta and DuPont. Many of the jobs that have been created in recent years have been in retail, which generally pays much less than manufacturing.
