Selica UMC

The Community Table at Selica United Methodist Church welcomes everyone to a Thanksgiving meal at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19. The meal will be followed by a program on gratitude and the origins of our Thanksgiving Holiday.

Crafty Ladies

The Crafty Ladies meet every Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Selica United Methodist Church. A couple of the ladies have been making Comfy Cozy Blankies for young children going through changes in their young lives. Our guests Carroll and Kae came by and talked about the importance of this project. We also went down memory lane about what was going on around here way back when. An enjoyable day.

Cathey’s Creek Community Center

In the Bible Mission meets at the community center every Sunday morning starting at 10 a.m., with Sunday school/Bible study and music and singing and preaching service, with Rev. Pete Lee starting at 11 a.m. Visitors are always welcome to join in.

The Cathey’s Creek History Project

We couldn’t get into the community center Monday afternoon because they were resurfacing Island Ford Road on the Rosman Highway end, so we moved to the church and had an eventful meeting. Anyone with a story and facts about the history of this fine community please share with us. Contact Cora at or 884-7324, or my email or phone number that is listed. Last week we enjoyed an interview with a local neighbor who gave us a lot of great information and history. We are still wondering if anyone knows anything about Robor. Selica was called this before it was named Selica. Where did the name come from?

Prayers for anyone who is sick or in the hospital, hospice care and those dealing with losses. Pray for the family of Randy Moretz, who passed away on Nov. 5. Prayers for the family of J.C. Pressley, who passed away on Nov. 8 and for all families who have lost loved ones, and for unspoken prayers. Remember our military personal and veterans, law enforcement officers, fire-fighters, medical personnel and clergy.

Happy birthday to Cameron Whitmire on Nov. 12, and Terry Gravely and Tammy Townsend on Nov. 14. Also to all the other birthday folks who have upcoming birthdays. Enjoy your day and God bless.

The Window

There have been a lot of starlings lately at the feeder. The other afternoon it seemed they were fighting to see how many birds could eat at one time, except Mr. Squirrel filling up on sunflower seeds. He just ignored them and enjoyed his lunch.
