Murray Leads Lady Blue Devils To Sixth Place At State

Heading into the last mile, Lucy Murray's teammates started counting.

Every time an opposing runner flashed by, up went a finger. It barely took two hands for her teammates to realize she had an opportunity at a rare honor – all-state as a freshman.

Storming around the famous horseshoe bend that indicates the final half-mile, Murray was up to 12th and gaining on a coveted top-10 finish.

She would get as close as eight seconds from that honor, finishing 12th overall and less than a second away from top freshman honors, in a blistering time of 19:55. It was the fastest time run by a L...
