The big event among the planets in the next two weeks is the conjunction of the two brightest of the planets. Venus, the brightest, has come out from behind the sun and is increasing its apparent distance from the sun. Astronomers refer to the angle between the sun and a planet as elongation. So, we would say the elongation of Venus is increasing as it comes around the sun towards us. In the meantime, the opposite is happening with the second brightest planet, Jupiter.
