Jury Selection In Ayala Murder Trial Goes Into Seventh Day – Brevard, NC

November 21, 2019

As of Wednesday morning, 11 jurors had been selected for the trial in the case involving the alleged murder of 18-year-old Saul Ayala.

Wednesday marks the seventh day of jury selection for this trial.

As previously reported, Ayala was allegedly stabbed to death in a robbery on Washington Street in Brevard in July 2017.

The defendants in this case are Connell Dixon Hawkins, Chadley Tyrone Norris and James Alexander Ray. A fourth person, Nioka Faye Metcalfe, was also charged in the case, but Metcalfe has agreed to cooperate with the investigation and testify and will plea to a lesser felony.

Hawkins, Norris and Ray are on trials for first degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Four more spots on the jury (including three alternate jurors) remained open Wednesday and it is expected the case will carry over into the Thanksgiving holiday.
