Ann Azalea Russ Nickes, 71, of Brevard, died Nov. 20, 2019, in Asheville.

Her father, Dallas Simeon Russ Sr., and one great-granddaughter pre-ceded her in death.

A native of Georgetown, S.C., she was born Dec. 9, 1947, to Dallas and Marcella Pope Russ.

During her growing up years, she traveled extensively, living a full and adventurous life with her family, as her father’s business was with a Worldwide Company. She attended Business College in Chicago, Ill., where she studied accounting. In 1972, she decided to make her permanent home in Brevard.

She was a published poet and artist, had a healing sense of humor, and was a bold and courageous person.

She was an animal lover, she loved to learn, read, cook and enjoyed outdoor activities.

She was a loyal mother, daughter, sister and friend, as well as a loving grandmother.

Survivors include her mother, Marcella Russ, of Hemingway, S.C .; two brothers, Dallas S. Russ Jr. (Brenda), of Thief River Falls, Minn., and Dennis A. Russ (Tracy), of Georgetown, S.C .; one son, Jessie Nickes Jr., of Brevard; one daughter, Yvette Jennings (Johnathon), of Panama City, Fla .; granddaughter, Danielle Nickes, of Brevard; grandson, Ryland Townsend, of Panama City, Fla .; five great-grandchildren; four nephews and two nieces; as well as a large extended family in various parts of the country.

She was dearly loved by all of her family and her light in our lives will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life for Ann will be announced in the near future for any and all wishing to attend.
