Hawkins Named Top N.C. Rural Advocate

Transylvania County Commission Chairman Mike Hawkins has been named as the 2019 North Carolina Rural Advocate of the Year by the North Carolina Rural Center.
The award, given annually to a North Carolinian whose public leadership has resulted in important statewide rural advancement, was given to Hawkins at the Rural Center’s annual Rural Assembly last week in Raleigh, according to a release.
Hawkins was cited for his work on the local, regional and state levels, and for his work as the conceiver and catalyst for the “Energizing Rural NC” rural economic development initiatives.
