Destination Hike: Caesars Head to Sassafras Mountain

Caesars Head to the summit of Sassafras Mountain via the Caesars Head Spur Trail is a 14-mile hike with over 3,000 feet of elevation gain but is well worth it for the spectacular views along the way. This is most easily completed as a one-way shuttle taking two cars, and leaving one at each parking area.

When people say Transylvania County I often find myself imagining roaring waterfalls and green-tunneled trails that push on through rhododendron thickets. I think in the micro, the secret spots we all love, the afternoons skipping rocks by some small, no-named waterfall we visited as kids,...
