The problem with the assassination of Iranian General Soleimani is not that the world has lost a vicious, violent man, but that the world has probably become a more dangerous place for us all.

This dreadful situation need not have been provoked, but we should not be surprised that it was. Soleimani was killed by a U.S. president who doesn’t give a Twinkie what his impulsive, self-serving decisions may ignite around the world. As long as they stir the pot and move him closer to victory in November 2020, which — we can hope and pray — it won’t.
