Basic Apple Group

Start the Year with more fun on your Apple computer, iPad, or iPhone! On Monday, Jan. 20, the Basic Apple Group will feature Photos, how to Send and Save images and photos in Mail and Messages, as well as in Photos, easily and quickly. Screenshots too!

The group meets at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 22 Fisher Road in Brevard opposite Ingles. Apple computer users meet 10-11:15 a.m. while iPad and iPhone users meet 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. New users to Apple are always welcome.

Embroiderers’ Guild Of America

The Laurel Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America will hold its next meeting on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The program will be a special presentation given by Sharon Richmond, a certified teacher in the Pearl K. McGown National Guild.

Richmond will provide instruction on creating a flower using an embroidered center with hooked wool petals. There was required handwork in January for this project.

The chapter meets at Cummings United Methodist Church, located at 3 Banner Farm Road in Etowah/Horse Shoe. Registration is from 9:30 to 10 a.m., followed by a short business meeting and the program until noon.

Project Linus

The Western North Carolina Chapter of Project Linus donates blankets to children in crisis providing a sense of security and warmth. Over the past 12 years the local chapter has donated more than 75,000 blankets in 12 Western North Carolina counties.


The annual Make-A-Blanket Day for Buncombe County will be held on March 21 at Eliada Home.

Stitches Of Love

Stitches of Love is a group creating handcrafted items which are donated to local charities. Over 23,000 items (quilts, lap robes, knitted and crocheted items) have been donated during the past 14 years.

Stitches of Love meets at the New Hope Presbyterian Church on Sweeten Creek Road on the second Monday evening of each month at 7 p.m. At the meeting, completed items are turned in and there is a show and tell.
