Dorothy Wilson Schieve, 95, passed away at Tore’s Home in Brevard, Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020.

She was born in Bonham, Texas, Oct. 25, 1924, to George and Bessie Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1996; her parents; four siblings; and a beloved granddaughter.

She was especially proud of her service in the United States Women’s Army Corps from 1942-1945. She was assigned to public relations with Supreme Headquarters in London as a sergeant, later serving in France after the D-Day invasion. She met her future husband, George Schieve, who was also serving in London. They were married in Paris just before the war ended.

After their marriage, they spent many years in Michigan before settling in Brevard. She loved traveling, playing golf and bridge, and reading.

She was brave and of good humor during her years of declining health.

She is survived by three children, Ron Schieve (Linda), of Brevard; Jane Schneider (Larry), of East Lansing, Mich .; and Mary Schieve, of Phoenix, Ariz .; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


The family wished to express appreciation to the friendly visitors of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Dr. Clara Kim Chay, Transylvania Regional Hospital, Cedar Mountain House staff and Tore’s Home staff.

Cremation was arranged by Asheville Mortuary Services.

No services are planned.

There will be a private internment of ashes in the spring of 2020, St. Paul’s-in-the-Valley Cemetery.
