Jacqueline "Jackie" Taylor Guryan

Jacqueline Taylor Guryan passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, in Brevard, at the age of 90.

She was born Oct. 3, 1929, to Thomas and Maude Taylor, in Mumford, N.Y. She was the eldest of five siblings, Celia, Eilene, Thomas (deceased), and Sarah.

She graduated as an R.N. from Mt. Sinai School of Nursing in New York City, where she met her beloved husband, George G. Guryan. They resided in Rochester, N.Y. until 1970, when a job change brought them to Westport, Conn., and subsequently, Doylestown, Pa., Evansville, Ind., and Pasadena, Calif.

They chose Brevard as their retirement home and loved the “Land of Waterfalls,” and life in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where they participated in many community activities, and traveled the country in their Road Trek camper van

Predeceased by her husband, George, she continued her travels to visit her six children; eight grandchildren; her three sisters; and 13 nieces and nephews. For her 80th birthday, she toured China, and walked the Great Wall.

She was a volunteer at Safe’s Attic; a lector and greeter at Sacred Heart Church in Brevard; and was very involved with the Brevard Little Theater. In addition, she was active in many clubs in Connestee Falls.

She continued to meet regularly with her fellow nurses from the Mt. Sinai School of Nursing Alumni Group, and was proud to be a participant in the Harvard Nurse’s Health Study.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Guryan March, and her husband, Duncan March; Michael Guryan, and his children, Tyler and Grace; Stephen Guryan, and his wife, Gina Guryan, and his children, Alex, Thomas, and Anna, Robert Guryan, Christopher Guryan, his wife, Margaret, and their son, George, and Terri Guryan Piekara, her husband, Thomas, and their children, Charlotte and Jonas.

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at 11 a.m.
