Cathey’s Creek Community Center

In the Bible Mission meets every Sunday morning at the Cathey’s Creek Community Center. Sunday school/Bible study begins at 10 a.m., and singing and preaching starts at 11 a.m. Rev. Pete Lee is the pastor. Visitors are always welcome.

Crafty Ladies

The Crafty Ladies meet every Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Selica United Methodist Church, which is celebrating its 100th year. We appreciate the church for the use of the church. Next week is the first Monday and our monthly luncheon and to celebrate February birthdays, including Annie Mae Fowler on Feb. 13 and Earlene Orr on Feb. 20. Happy birthday also to Mary Lou Hensley on Jan. 28. Belated birthday wishes go to Callen Whitmire on Jan. 22. Hope everyone has a happy day.

Cathey’s Creek History Project

Our group had a great meeting on Monday. We had pictures and papers spread all over the place, with everyone finding out new things. In Sunday’s lesson, a verse I came across is taken from Deuteronomy 4:9: “lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen.” Our goal is to preserve the history of this area we live in.

Pat Fisher

Pray for the family of Patricia Ann Hunter Fisher, who passed away on Jan. 21. Pat was 68 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, on Christmas Day, 2019. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and siblings. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will follow the memorial service.

Dot Reid

Received news that Dot Reid, who lived on Clement Road during the 1990s, has passed away on Jan. 16. She was living in Tallahassee, Fla. Her husband was Ben Reid. They moved from this area to Balsam Grove. They were good neighbors. She leaves behind children and grandchildren. Prayers for family and friends.

2020 Census Job Fair

There will be a Rosman area Job Fair between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Friday, at the Rosman Town Hall. They are looking for over 100 applicants for the position of census takers. The hourly wage is $17 and $.58 cents a mile.

Give 5, Read 5 Book Collection

Rosman Elementary School is currently collecting new and gently used books for its seventh annual Give 5, Read 5 book drive. Books collected go home with students to build their personal at-home libraries. The hope is to collect at least five books for each of the 325 students. They will be collecting until late May. Call Crystal Whitman at 862-4431 for more information or to arrange for pick-up.

The Window

Sunday morning when I opened the curtains it looked like a scene from “Frozen.”

Everything had a beautiful glistening coating of frost, every limb and blade of grass. The mountains were white, with the frozen mist. The fog even looked frozen. It soon melted with the bright sunshine. “Frozen” is an animated Disney movie that kids and adults have delighted in for the past few years. I’ve watched it numerous times with the great-grands.
