Saving A Community Center

Congratulations to Lakin Jones and her crew for all their work in sprucing up the Williamson Creek Community Center.

The WCCC was set to close, and there was a deadline with the Board of Elections needing a polling place in the Williamson Creek precinct for the 2020 primary elections.

There were at least three immediate problems that had to be addressed. There was a problem with termites and mold and there was a need for someone to oversee the center. The funds to maintain the center were depleted, but Sam Edney and Shawn White of Pisgah Pest Control very generously agreed to absorb the cost of termite treatment and labor as a community service.

Lakin agreed to head a committee to oversee the center. We had a community meeting to raise funds for expenses, and we were then able to make a commitment to the Board of Elections that we would be open and ready for the 2020 primary elections.

This was a wonderfully successful, cooperative effort between community minded private citizens and a local businessman.
