For a senior night game against bitter rivals, you couldn't ask for much more than what the Brevard Lady Blue Devils and the Pisgah Bears left on the court Tuesday night.

After trailing early in the first half, Brevard stormed back to take a one-point lead at halftime before the two sides battled back and forth in a frenzied fourth quarter.

Ultimately, a team-high 22-point effort from Tristen Berry and some key defensive stops in the closing minutes were enough for Brevard to hang on and score the 55-51 victory.

The Lady Blue Devils trailed 14-8 after the first quarter and 20-13 midway through the second quarter.

But they closed the half on a 14-7 run to take a 28-27 halftime lead.

The teams stayed within four points of each other the rest of the contest, with every possession being highlighted.

After Pisgah tied things up at 32, a bucket inside from Michelle Lopez and a 3-pointer from Hannah Cabe put Brevard in front 37-33.

But the Bears responded with a 3-pointer that set off a 5-0 run and put them ahead 38-37 with 4:30 to go in the third quarter.

A trey from Berry gave Brevard back the lead at 40-38, but Pisgah roared back to take a 42-40 lead.

The Lady Blue Devils countered, with consecutive buckets from Berry and a fast break bucket from Cassidee Cali just before the buzzer that gave Brevard a 46-42 lead going into the final quarter.

Pisgah retook the lead at 47-46 following a 3-pointer, but freshman Shaniya Cook netted two points inside to put Brevard back on top 48-47.

The teams traded the lead before Pisgah tied things up at 50 with 1:50 left to play.

After a free throw, the Bears led 51-50, but Lopez answered with two points inside to make it 52-51 with 1:15 to go.

Berry added a free throw moments later, as the Lady Blue Devils led 53-51 with 50 seconds left.

After a big defensive stop, Berry added two more shots from the charity stripe to make the score 55-51 with 27 seconds left.

Brevard came up big on defense again, as Cook came away with a steal that allowed Brevard to run the clock down to two seconds, securing the win.

Berry did the bulk of the scoring, with Cabe finishing with nine points.

Lopez and Cali had eight points each, with Lopez also collecting 10 rebounds.

Cook was also an important contributor, particularly on defense, as well as the glass, where she finished with eight rebounds.

The win was Brevard's seventh straight dating back to Jan. 23 and gave the Lady Blue Devils a bit of revenge, as Pisgah was the last team they lost to.

The two teams finished tied in the Mountain Six standings, but Brevard ended up winning the tiebreaker, giving them second place in the conference, which grants them a first-round bye in next week's Mountain Six tournament.

The Lady Blue Devils will play next Tuesday at East Henderson against the winner of the first-round game between Pisgah and East Henderson.
