Marguerite Firestone Baker, 96, passed away peacefully Jan. 29, 2020, in Palm Harbor, Fla.

She was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Wooster, Ohio, to William Alva Firestone and Clara Catharine Dintaman.

She is survived by her children, Linda Latherow (Bob Latherow, deceased), Paul William Jr. (Karen), Ben (Mary Alice), Timothy (Sherry), Laura Stasko (Gary), and Jill Hutson (Jeff, deceased); 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Paul William Baker Sr .; her parents, and siblings, Chester Firestone, Mary Taylor, Naomi Kinney, Odella Reichert, and Betty Reichert.

Marge (Mom/Grandma) grew up the youngest of six children on a farm in the town of Wooster. She grew up surrounded by love and learned to give love back to all she encountered, her parents, siblings, husband, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was loved for her cooking, her sewing, her storytelling, her bridge playing, and her golfing abilities, but mostly, she was loved for who she was, a woman of faith, who understood that life was best lived by giving love away.

After graduating from Ohio State University and marrying her sweetheart, Paul Baker, in 1944 during World War II, she moved with him several times before settling in Brevard, where they lived until his death in 2013, when she moved to Palm Harbor, Fla., to be with her daughter, Linda.

In her years in Brevard raising six children, she was active in helping with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and other school activities. She also volunteered at Transylvania Regional Hospital and was active in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Brevard for many years. She will be missed, but her legacy of love will live on.

Family and friends are invited to funeral services at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 22 Fisher Road, Brevard, NC, 28712.
