Last updated 2/24/2020 at 2:52pm

Blue Ridge Health will host a grand opening Thursday for its new practice location in Transylvania County.

A ribbon cutting will be held at 4 p.m. at the new site at 29 W. French Broad St., Suite 203, in Brevard, followed by tours of the practice, live music, giveaways, refreshments and a contest through 6 p.m.

Blue Ridge Health is a nonprofit health care system that works closely with communities to meet the ever-changing health care needs of the region, according to a press release. Since opening in Brevard in 2012, Blue Ridge Health has provided care for over 10,000 patients in Transylvania County, including over 2,300 children, across all service lines. Blue Ridge Health is the only comprehensive primary care medical home providing universal care in the county, the release said.

In 2012, Blue Ridge Health was successful in its application for New Access Point funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration. The funding allowed for a new practice – providing family medicine, pediatrics, prenatal care, dentistry, counseling and psychiatry - to be opened with the intention of expanding access to care for those who need it most.

Since that successful application, the practice in Brevard has expanded and Blue Ridge Health has grown into the largest nonprofit medical provider in Western North Carolina.
