Jazz singer Julie McConnell will bring her four-piece band to the DFR Room on Saturday, March 7, for a night of standards from her latest CD “Senza Fine” as well as previous CDs.

The band will perform from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the DFR Room, Brevard’s underground taproom, restaurant and music venue at 36 E. Main St. Reservations are suggested for dinner; call (828) 877-9906.

McConnell, a professional singer first in Greensboro, N.C., and then southern California, relocated to the greater Asheville area a few years ago and put together the Julie McConnell Quintet that has performed at venues throughout the region, from Master Works Theatre to White Horse Black Mountain to Isis Music Hall.

The Julie McConnell Quintet also features Bryan McConnell, who plays double bass and also played for both John Handy and Bobby Hutchinson. Julie McConnell’s drummer, Bill Berg, was the drummer for both Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens. Her guitarist, Chris Bevt, is a professor of jazz guitar and recording arts at Western Carolina University, and her pianist is Bill Gerhardt, a well-known composer and pianist in Western North Carolina.

Julie McConnell is featured in the March issue of The Sofia Magazine of Asheville. In addition, she has been featured several times on Renee Denton’s weekly radio show on WNCW’s “Local Color” program on Monday nights. Bill Kopp featured her in February 2019 in the “30 Days Out” section of the Mountain Xpress.
