The following briefs are from Thursday, March 12, 1970, edition of The Transylvania Times.

Officer James M. Leopard, of the Brevard Police Department, has been credited with saving the life of a 12-year-old girl, Martha Ann Aiken, of Whitmire Extension in Brevard. He began giving the girl mouth-to-mouth resuscitation after her mother ran into the police station seeking help when she noticed her daughter in a state of shock and shaking violently. When Martha revived, Leopard rushed her to the hospital where she underwent various tests.
