Community Center Activities

After several years of Quebec not having a news column, I will be writing it for publication on the second and fourth week of the month. My aunt Virgie Fisher wrote a weekly report before she passed away several years ago. Her daughter, Paulette, continued until she moved from the area.

Personal Notes

Gregg Kininmonth came from Longview, Wash., and spent a week with his cousins Doris and Deidera Waldrop. Several of us, his cousins spent an evening with Gregg catching up and remembering old times.

Kim Mathis and her aunt Ruth Mathis visited with Ruth’s niece, Carrie, and her daughter Queenie in San Francisco. They enjoyed all the sights, new foods and visiting with family. They were happy to get home and get some rest.

Marie Bowker, our oldest community resident, has not been feeling well. Please place her on your prayer list.

Oak Grove Church News

Oak Grove Baptist Church welcomed new Pastor Cliff McKnight to our church and community last May. Pastor Cliff, his wife Melissa, and children Caleb, Zoe and Ella moved to the mountains from the Wilmington area and have already made a positive impact in the months they have been with us. Most recently, on Saturday, March 7, the McKnights took the Oak Grove youth group to Fruitland Baptist Bible College in Henderson County, where Pastor Cliff is currently enrolled, for a day of youth events, which included a meal, games, music and featured speaker Keith Benton. The group then retired to the church for a “Lock-In” on Saturday night. The Sunday morning service on March 8 included guest speaker Jeremy Queen of our own Transylvania County Sheriff’s Department representing Gideons International.

Regular Sunday morning services begin at Oak Grove Baptist with Sunday school at 10 a.m., followed by Bible study led by Pastor Cliff for adults and youth programs for all ages.

Faith Baptist Church News

The church enjoyed a snow tubing trip on Saturday, March 7. The youth at Faith are interested in doing a service project. If anyone knows of an elderly person who needs help with errands and wants to discuss a possible need, see Paiton Reese.

Sunday morning services start at 11. Bible study for adult and youth are each Wednesday evenings at 7.

Once a month a study on The Art of Marriage Ministry is held on second Sunday at 7 p.m. This study is for any couple in our community interested in strengthening their relationship and learning about God’s design for marriage.

March schedules for Sunday evenings services: first Sunday preaching, second Sunday Marriage study, third choir practice and fourth no service. On the fourth Sunday they will visit at Kingsbridge at 3 p.m. Contact Pastor Kyle Reese or Kim Mathis has more information.
