Shirley Galloway Tinsley

Shirley Galloway Tinsley, of Pisgah Forest, departed this life March 7, 2020.

She was a lifelong resident of Pisgah Forest. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Carl L. and Ida Owen Galloway; her brothers, Bill, Ivan and Clyde Galloway; and her sisters, Christine Wilson, Delphine Donnelly, Phylliss Constantine, Ethel Poole, Brenda Spillman, Brona Dunn and Annie Sue Maness.

Born March 21, 1938, she was a follower of Christ and a member of Pisgah Forest Baptist Church.

She was a 1956 graduate of Brevard High School and attended Blanton’s Business College in Asheville. She worked for 44 years at Bridge’s Coal and Oil Company, and Henderson Oil Company. In addition, she delighted in caring for children in the nurseries of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, and Pisgah Forest Baptist Church, where she was known by the kids as “Miss Shirley.”

Due to her experience with near blindness as a child, she became heavily involved with the Lion’s Club International. She was a charter member of the Davidson River Lion’s Club and served in various leadership roles over the years.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 15 years, William Calvin “Bear” Tinsley; her son, David Galloway and wife, Tiffany; her grandchildren, Kari and Sam Galloway; great-grandson, Rowan; sister, Sylvia McCrary and husband, John; and sister, Patricia Hampton, all residents of Pisgah Forest.

She will be long remembered for her nurturing spirit and loving with her whole heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Four Seasons Hospice Angel Fund, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731, or Davidson River Lion’s Club, P.O. Box 716, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768. Or, simply visit your local Animal Shelter and consider adopting your new best friend.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 13, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church, with Rev. Morris Young officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 12, 2020, from 6-8 p.m. at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church.

A private graveside service will follow the service at Davidson River Cemetery.
