Drive-through COVID-19 screening is now available at the Hendersonville campus of Blue Ridge Community College through Pardee UNC Health Care, Henderson County Government, Department of Public Health and Emergency Management.

The screening site will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will be a free service. To get tested, people must call ahead at the Pardee COVID-19 Helpline at (828) 694-8048 for a pre-screening.

If a community member calls the helpline and qualifies for flu or COVID-19 testing, they will receive instructions on how to proceed with testing.

According to Pardee’s website, the screening site is set up for community members who are experiencing symptoms of cough, fever greater than 100 degrees and shortness of breath, and who have also already called the helpline.

“This is meant to be a regional resource. It is not just for Henderson County residents,” said Tara Rybka, public information office with Transylvania Public Health.

After calling the Pardee COVID-19 Helpline, if a person qualifies for screening, they will be able to go to the drive through and take a rapid flu test. If the flu test comes back negative, then they will proceed to getting a COVID-19 test, Rybka said.

“Anybody who receives a COVID test is expected to self-isolate at home for five or six days until those test results come back,” Rybka said. “Anybody who has respiratory symptoms should be calling their provider before they just show up at the office. And so were still encouraging folks to pursue testing through their primary care providers but I understand that not everybody has that testing capability, and so this is just another option for folks,” Rybka said.
