In partnership with state and local officials and community-based organizations, Transylvania County Schools is announcing plans to provide meals for all children age 18 and under during ongoing school closures. While school closures continue to be necessary to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we know that many of our community’s children rely on daily meals they receive in our schools.

“These are difficult days for all our young families,” said School Nutrition Services Director Carolyn Barton. “The flexibility we now have from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the ongoing support of our wonderful community agencies, will go a long way to helping see our community through this uncertain time.”

Starting Wednesday, Transylvania County Schools will provide a combination of pick-up and delivery options to feed all children ages 18 and under in the community. Parents and guardians have an opportunity to use either method, and the service will continue based on the interest of families in using this service.

On Wednesday and Thursday, March 18-19, children’s meals – lunch and breakfast for the next day –will be available for families to take home at the four elementary schools: Brevard, Pisgah Forest, Rosman and T.C. Henderson. These are the same days that learning packets for Virtual Day work are available for pickup at the schools.

Every weekday starting Wednesday, March 18, yellow school buses will travel through the Brevard, Pisgah Forest, and Rosman areas to deliver children’s meals – lunch, and breakfast for the next day – for families to take home.

Buses will follow these routes, with additions/adjustments later as needed:

•Pisgah Forest (10:40 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.): Broad River Terrace, Duckworth Trailer Park, Excelsior Apartments, NA West Lane and Kayla Lane

•Brevard (12:25 p.m. to 2 p.m.): Hillview Circle, Unity Drive

•Rosman (10:40 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.): Jossie’s Place, Kantor Village (Mi-Daisy, Chuck’s Court, Big B, Lonnie’s Landing, Shannon’s Bluff, Lover’s Lane)

Families who live nearby are welcome to meet buses at the stops. Those who do not live nearby may fill out a form online at http://www.tcsnc.org/covid19 or call 885-7393 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to request a new bus stop. Requests received by 3:30 p.m. will be added to the bus route by the following day.

Flyers with dates of service and the most current stops for bus routes will be sent home by SchoolMessenger and posted online.
