On Thursday, March 19, physicians from across the county gathered online to discuss current trends and risk management for COVID-19. Lex Green, president of Pisgah Health Foundation, initiated the invitation for the medical community to gather. Physicians participating in the video conference were Dr. Angus Graham, Dr. Garrett Graham, Dr. Tim Shea, Dr Ora Wells, Dr. Joe Cohen, Dr Morris Jenkins, Dr. Bonnie Green, Dr. Jim Wright, Dr. Morris Jenkins and Dr. Ray Dunkelberg.

Key outcomes of the online meeting included a review of a COVID-19 science update prepared by Dr. Garrett Graham, Ph.D. bioengineering. Graham highlighted comparative trends of COVID-19 as compared to other viruses, as well as projected implications for local infection rates in comparison to current hospital bed capacities. Physicians also discussed current plans for local testing sites, possible locations for additional sites, as well what other communities are doing to mitigate risks and prepare for the impacts to the physical, as well as financial health and well-being of their communities.

Highlighting the urgency and importance of community collaboration to manage the multi-faceted impacts of the virus, the physicians committed to continued online meetings of similar nature. Garrett Graham is working to prepare data specific to Transylvania County to share at the next online meeting.

The Pisgah Health Foundation is a public 501 (c)(3) charity founded in 2019, by a board of seven caring individuals focused on improving the health, wellness and lives of Western North Carolina residents.
