Driker, Not On The AT

By the time last week's Dunn's Rock News hit the press, Driker (the Dunn's Rock hiker) was home from the trail. After hiking all day Tuesday, he received texts saying that the Appalachian Trail Conservancy was asking thru-hikers to voluntarily leave the trail due to the spread of COVID-19.

Even though the trail allows for social distancing while hiking, shelters put hikers in close proximity to others. There is also a concern that hikers might bring infection into the small communities along the trail who provide services like resupplying, lodging and shuttles. Many...
