Seniors Stay Connected, Sing And Play Games-Brevard NC

Residents of College Walk emerged from isolation on Friday to sing songs celebrating their connection with each other despite their quarantine. (Times photos by Matt McGregor)

From their balconies, patios and driveways, residents of College Walk, the retirement community in Brevard, came out to sing together on Friday in a ritual of connecting, a ceremony emulating that of citizens of Rome, Italy, where residents have been singing on their balconies to show that, though they are separate, they remain together.

"It's a tight-knit community, and to be separated from staff and residents, it's difficult, so this is a way we can celebrate the community that we are," said Diana Mashburn, the sales director at College Walk.
