A few months ago when the COVID-19 outbreak began, many Americans wondered why it was receiving so much attention when the regular flu killed approximately 32,000 Americans last year. It was a legitimate question.

Since that time, however, as COVID-19 has spread, we have learned much more about the coronavirus, and it is much worse than the regular flu.

COVID-19 is transmitted much easier than the flu, as North Carolina Senator Richard Burr told a private meeting of wealthy individuals this winter. The rate of infection for the regular flu is 1.5, meaning a carrier of the flu, on average,...
