Sarah Mull Metcalf, 87, of Brevard, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Floy Berry Mull. In addition to her parents, her husband, Clarence Metcalf; her brothers, Charles Mull, Ted Mull and Guy Mull; and her sisters, Polly Watkins, Sadie Souther, Mamie Bryson, Ernestine Mull, Betty Cook and Anna Lee Kinley, also preceded her in death.

A woman of devout faith, her life revolved around her family and church. She loved to cook up wonderful meals and loved to bake, especially around the holidays, when she would take her creations to friends and family alike.

She was also an avid sewer and knitter and used to make beautiful dresses from patterns she bought. As her health declined, she would sit and watch westerns, do her word puzzles, read her Bible and never missed an episode of Family Feud.

She was a nurse and worked for Dr. James Keeley in Brevard for over 30 years. The lives she touched over the years would never forget her kind words and beautiful smile, not to mention her fudge, if you were lucky enough to have some. But it was her huge heart that set her apart and it showed up until the end, as the last thing she did was to call her children to tell them she loved them and to say goodbye.

Her survivors include sons, Gary Johnson (Susan), of Knoxville, Tenn .; Mark Johnson, of Hampstead, N.C .; stepchildren, Stanley Metcalf (Debbie), of Brevard, Steve Metcalf (Teresa), of Weaverville, N.C., and Sheila Snipes (Gene), of Brevard; six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to public health concerns regarding Covid-19, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Home Health.
