Emergency services responded to a plane crash at 11:26 a.m., Thursday morning, at Transylvania Community Airport.

According to a statement given to N.C. Highway Patrol from the aircraft's 67-year-old pilot, Brian Leverson, a gust of wind lifted the aircraft's left wing while he was landing the plane. Leverson was not injured in the accident.

"He had just touched down in his aircraft, an 1946 Taylorcraft single-engine, and he was in the landing roll out when a gust of wind lifted the left wing," said N.C. Highway Patrol 1st. Sgt. David B. Williams. "This caused the left side landing gear to lift, and the aircraft was unable to maintain directional control, and the aircraft ran off the runway to the right and nose dived right into a small stream."

Williams said the Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the incident.
