Missing Live Music

Last updated 4/8/2020 at 2:16pm

This past Sunday was the planned date for the Brevard Philharmonic’s “Beethoven, Bottesini, and Bass” concert, cancelled obviously by the coronavirus crisis. Missed events like this make us realize how things once considered routine have become longed-for memories. Live musical performances have the power to bring such great solace in times of duress, and their absence can add to our sadness. We hope everyone can find ways to keep spirits high during these trying times.

Although this is a sad moment for the Brevard Philharmonic to acknowledge a missed concert, at the same time it also reminds us of the gratitude we have for so many people in our wonderful community:

•We are thankful for our musicians who have applied themselves so diligently for many years to develop their artistry and deliver such uplifting and inspiring music for our souls.

•We appreciate our patrons and donors for the support that allows us to present these concerts. It is their enthusiasm over the years that has made this possible and worthwhile.

•We are also grateful for our sponsors of the three concerts that had to be cancelled – Jan and Doug Hart for “Sensational Strings,” the A. Stuart Fendler Family Trust for “Beethoven, Bottesini, and Bass,” and Ginny and Warren Bedell for “POPS: Stage, Page, and Screen.”

It may seem wildly optimistic at this time when we are being constantly bombarded by such dire news, but we wanted to let you know James Fellenbaum and the Brevard Philharmonic are working to finalize plans for our 2020-2021 season. Our hope is that by autumn we will be able to gather our talented musicians on the stage of the magnificent Porter Center performing exhilarating orchestral music to help us reawaken our spirits after this period of isolation.

We wish the best for everyone’s health, safety and emotional strength during these difficult times, and we look forward to seeing you – and sharing marvelous music with you – on the other side of this crisis.
