Quebec News

We are experiencing cool but beautiful weather. People are outside starting to plow gardens and planting early crops. There are reports of some arrowhead finds after plowing. Flowerbeds are being prepared for planting after May 15. Taking my daily walk has allowed me to enjoy the spring flowers and seeing nature coming back to life. One thing I have started to do after my daily walk is pick up one Ingle or Walmart sized bag of trash along the roadside. We have a beautiful community; let’s clean it up. It takes between five and 10 minutes to fill the bag. The severe storm that swept through our area brought down trees and limbs. We’re very fortunate that our community did not lose power and had very little phone and Internet losses.

Personal Notes

Several people from our community enjoyed the free barbecue meal that was given out on April 11 at the Lake Toxaway Community Center. The Barbecue Shed passed out 650 meals. Thank you, Barbecue Shed. They are usually located at McNeely’s Store in Sapphire. Stop by, thank them and purchase a meal.

Congratulations to Thomas and Rachael Kirkman on their one-year wedding anniversary. They are frequent visitors to this area to visit Thomas’s grandmother, Doris Waldrop.

A beloved member of our community, Ruby Miller McCall, passed away this past week. Ruby lived in Quebec all her life and will be missed greatly.

Ben Fisher continues to improve after his surgery in Boston. Ben and his family hope to be home soon.

Tyler Galloway has returned home for recovery after a serious accident a couple of weeks ago.

John Price has returned home after a heart procedure and is reportedly doing well.

Pray for Hollyn Ashe, who broke her foot in several places. Hollyn is a nurse who grew up in our community and now lives in Peachtree, Ga.

Please remember these people in your daily prayers.

Church News

Faith Baptist Church continues to hold online services during this shut down. Their times are Sunday at 1 p.m. and Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

Oak Grove Baptist Church members went to the church parking lot on Saturday before Easter. They did a drive-thru and pickup of individually wrapped wafers and grape juice in order to observe the Lord’s Supper safely at home. On Easter morning Pastor Cliff’s message was watched on YouTube at 11 a.m. and all families celebrated together. Sermons for Sunday morning and Wednesday evening Bible Study are posted on Pastor Cliff’s McKnights YouTube until restrictions are lifted.

Remember the children’s books that are offered at the drive-up box at the community center.
