The Transylvania Times -

Appreciates Times More Than Ever

Last updated 4/27/2020 at 11:42am

For over 20 years, I have appreciated The Transylvania Times. I came from a small town with a solid community newspaper, and I was grateful to find one here, in Western North Carolina.

Part of the joy of The Transylvania Times is the way the newspaper reports the more daily lives of us all. My son has grown up seeing himself in photographs about Easter Egg hunts as well as Science Fair demonstrations. He would not have this experience in Minneapolis or Atlanta, and I believe that our daily lives and how we live them may be, in the end, what matters most.

We also value the inside look at local politics. I am not sure how people vote in small towns and cities that don’t have a paper as good as ours. Not only are there voting guides, but there is regular, solid reporting about the county commission and the city council.

Still another reason we appreciate The Transylvania Times is the lively letters to the editor, which give us insight into our neighbors and community. We don’t all agree – that’s what democracy is all about – yet we keep talking, thanks to you.

All this is true, but I have never valued The Transylvania Times more than in the past month. The way that the newspaper has become such a vital source of COVID information and daily life during the pandemic, keeping us connected to each other, has made it a necessity. Thank you for your thoughtful work.
