Good Neighbors

Last updated 5/4/2020 at 1:42pm

My husband and I have been residents of Deerlake Village since 2004. We have enjoyed the natural beauty of this neighborhood, its proximity to downtown Brevard and our charming neighbors. We also have long realized that future development of the property abutting ours might occur some day.

We are writing to request that the City Council take a very careful look at the proposed plans set forth by Mr. Borhaug and request that he make important changes to his plans before they are approved. We, along with most of our neighbors, support the need and desire for additional affordable housing, independent senior living quarters and child care centers in our community. The overall concept has many worthy qualities, but is sorely lacking in its design.

Mr. Borhaug has ignored all of our concerns and instead insinuates that we simply do not want his development “in our backyard.”

Borhaug has requested many variances from zoning regulations that will have a negative impact on our neighborhood. We would like Borhaug and the City Council to:

1. Explore an entrance from the Asheville Highway rather than adding congestion to Deerlake Road.

2. Decrease the number of dwellings in his development to address the concerns that were expressed in a recent guest editorial from the Deerlake Village Board of Directors.

We would like to be good neighbors. Does Borhaug?
