Cathey's Creek News
Last updated 5/6/2020 at 3:32pm
This past Sunday was another beautiful day, especially for going to church – a drive-in church that is. Cathey’s Creek Baptist is holding Sunday morning services in their parking lot.
Sunday was quite a warm day. Standing on the steps leading into the church was even warmer for Pastor Tony Lambert and Jeremy and Joey. We enjoy the service and music over FM radio in our cars. There were quite a few people attending.
Give 5 Read 5
Rosman Elementary School is currently collecting new and gently used books for its seventh annual Give 5, Read 5 book drive. Books collected go to their students to build their personal, at-home libraries.
Their hope is to collect at least five books for each of their 325 students. They will be collecting until late May. Contact Crystal Whitman at 862-4431. School is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for drop off.
Hall Of Fame Nominations
Have a little extra time to sit and reflect on the past? Have you thought about some of the people who have been important to the Rosman community? What a better honor than to nominate those individuals for the RHS Alumni Hall of Fame? Nominations for this year’s inductees will be accepted until Aug. 14. Nominations can be made in any of the five categories: athletic achievements, career success, contributions to RHS, inspirational experiences and public service.
The Hall of Fame was established in 2012 by RHS students to recognize alumni who have achieved success and also the people who have contributed to the Rosman community. It was created to improve the pride of the school and appreciation of what others have contributed. Last year’s inductees were Kirk Dotson, Kim Green, Doris Owen, Carlos Pangle and Dr. Betty Reed.
Applications can be found online on the RHS webpage under School Information tab or in the RHS office. They can be submitted on paper or via the online form that is now available. For more information, contact Rosman High School at 862-4284 or Julie Queen at [email protected]
Alma Butler Green
We were sorry to hear of the passing of Alma Butler Green, who passed away on May 1, 2020. She was born in Cathey’s Creek on Aug. 9, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Green, a son, parents, and a brother and a sister. Alma “Nanny” will be missed by all. She was creative and a good cook. Her service was May 3 at Old Toxaway Cemetery and was attended by a small family gathering.
Not much going on. Being at home I should be getting a lot accomplished… maybe. The Azaleas are pretty, and the Rhododendron has several big fat blooms on it outside my window. The bees are happy about that. My son has been doing a video of his church services on the mountain. You can hear the birds singing in the background. I am so glad the weather has been nice for most of them. I hope everyone is taking care to stay healthy.
