Emergency services workers responded to a call of a head injury on a mountain biker in Pisgah National Forest on Wednesday morning.

North Transylvania Fire Chief Jason Davis said responders were able to successfully extricate the patient from the trail and the patient was airlifted out of the forest to hospital.

North Transylvania Fire Department, Little River Fire Department, Brevard Fire Department and Transylvania County EMS all responded to the injured biker on the lower Black Mountain Trail in Pisgah.

Davis said he was not in contact with the patient and was not aware of the biker’s status.

Davis also believes members of the Transylvania County Rescue Squad assisted in the rescue of the biker, but said much of the rescue squad was still tied up with the search for the fallen hiker at the base of Whitewater Falls in Nantahala National Forest.
