Blackberry Winter

We have been having some cool weather, and a few mornings there was frost. Yes, the blackberries are in bloom. The Dogwoods were really pretty this year, too. Some people call this Dogwood winter.

Crafty Ladies

Since the Crafty Ladies aren’t meeting at this time, the May birthdays are Barbara Brubaker on May 25, Fran Hudson on May 27 and Pat Ashburn on May 29. Happy birthday to everyone and hope you have a blessed day. Keep on knitting.

Drive-In Church

It was a cooler but beautiful Sunday morning for the drive-in church at Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church this past Sunday. There were lots of cars in the parking lot, great music and message brought by Pastor Tony Lambert honoring all mothers on Mother’s Day.

RHS Alumni Hall Of Fame

Have a little extra time to sit and reflect on the past? Have you thought about some of the people who have been important to the Rosman community? What a better honor than to nominate those individuals for the RHS Alumni Hall of Fame? Nomination for this year’s inductees will be accepted until Aug. 14. Nominations can be made in any of the five categories: Athletic Achievements, Career Success, Contribution to RHS, Inspirational Experiences and Public Service.

The Hall of Fame was established in 2012 by RHS students to recognize alumni who have achieved success and also the people who have contributed to the Rosman community. It was created to improve the pride of the school and develop appreciation of what others have contributed. Last year’s inductees were Kirk Dotson, Kim Green, Doris Owen, Carlos Pangle and Dr. Betty Reed.

Applications can be found online on the RHS webpage under the School Information tab or in the RHS office. They can be submitted on paper or via the online form that is now available. For more information, contact Rosman High School at 862-4284 or Julie Queen at

Give 5 Read 5

Rosman Elementary School is currently collecting new and gently used books for its 7th annual Give 5, Read 5 book drive. Books collected go home with their students to build their personal at-home libraries. Their hope is to collect at least five books for each of their 325 students. They will be collecting until late May. Call Crystal Whitman at 862-4431 for more information. The school is open Monday-Friday from 7:30-3:30 p.m. for drop-off.

Planets And The Waning Moon

This week Jupiter, Saturn and Mars will align with the moon. The moon is waning. This event is seen best looking southeast one hour before sunrise starting on Thursday.

Mother’s Day

Wiley, my great grandson, stopped by with his mother, my granddaughter and little brother on Mother’s Day, greeting me at a distance with his little mask on. Cade and Jay also came to see me and their mother, another granddaughter and, of course, my children came by, too. We sat outside close to the house and out of the wind. It was a little nippy. No hugs this year. Maybe next year. Cade said he misses going to school.
