The Brevard Music Center (BMC) will begin presenting Drive-In Movies on its campus starting Saturday night, May 30, 2020, in accordance with phase one of Gov. Roy Cooper's reopening orders.

The inaugural film will be "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" (rated PG-13). The films will be presented on successive Saturday nights from May 30 through July 18. Starting time is 9 p.m.

"Our Drive-In Movies @ Brevard Music Center series will offer something for movie buffs of all ages, including iconic musicals and old classics, as well as family-friendly, adventure, and action films. It will also allow our community to come together to share entertainment – in their cars and with their families – in a safe and inspiring environment," said Mark Weinstein, president and CEO of Brevard Music Center. "We know that all types of entertainment can soothe the soul. It is our hope that the Drive-In Movies @ Brevard Music Center series will provide a welcome respite for music and movie lovers of all ages in our community and region."

All films will be shown on a 30-foot screen in the parking lot adjacent to BMC's Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium (WPA), and audio will be available via FM transmission to the moviegoer's car radio.

In order to minimize physical interactions, tickets can only be purchased ahead of time at http://www.brevardmusic.org. A limit of 80 cars per showing will be allowed.

This eight-film series is made possible by Ingles Markets, presenting sponsor, with lead sponsors PLATT and the Transylvania County Library Foundation.

BMC is also collaborating with the following community partners for the Drive-In Movies @ Brevard Music Center series: The Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County, Rise & Shine Freedom School, SAFE, Veterans Museum of the Carolinas, Sharing House, Meals on Wheels, and Bread of Life. Volunteers from these participating nonprofit organizations will be giving each car a free bag of popcorn and candy along with literature about their missions in the community.

Brevard's own Co-Ed Cinema is providing the popcorn, and Ingles will provide free candy to patrons.

"Ingles is thrilled to be part of this fun and creative way to continue Brevard Music Center's rich tradition of entertaining WNC," said Melissa Leavell, director of advertising at Ingles Markets. "Ingles is especially proud to be a small part of so many coming together to bring this family event to Brevard."

Future movie titles and dates for the weekly film series will be announced online at http://www.brevardmusic.org.
