Authorities are investigating an incident that occurred in the See Off Mountain community on May 17, where two Dutch Shepard puppies were found dead, with one of the dogs decapitated.

According to Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Chief Deputy Eddie Gunter, the call came from a referral from Brevard Police Department (BPD), and that the dogs belonged to a BPD officer.

In the report from the incident, Gunter said the dog owners kept the puppies in a kennel with three other puppies. In the morning before the dogs were found dead, the owners checked on the kennel around midnight and found the dogs alive and well.

Gunter said it is unclear how the dogs were killed, and that there are no suspects in the case as of this morning. He also said it is unclear whether the dogs could have been attacked by a wild animal. According to the report, Gunter said one dog was missing its head and the other had a laceration on its neck, but there were no apparent gun shot or weapon wounds.

TCSO officers are continuing the investigation of the case and have been conducting interviews with neighbors.
