Jeanne H. Kirkman

Jeanne H. Kirkman, 90, of Cedar Mountain, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, N.Y. Her loving husband of 71 years, Frank Kirkman, was at her side.

The couple were roommates at Iroquois. They were from Long Island, N.Y. When her husband retired in 1984, they moved to Cedar Mountain, where they had a wonderful retirement. They moved to Syracuse, N.Y., in 2019 to be close to family.

Upon moving to North Carolina, she became a real estate agent with Jean Judge in the Connestee/ Brevard area until her own retirement. She volunteered for the Cedar Mountain Fire and Rescue Auxiliary, as well as at the Cedar Mountain Community Center. She enjoyed golf and the social life at the Connestee Club.

They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Brevard, where they ushered and welcomed fellow parishioners.

An eternal optimist, she was always looking at the best in circumstances and saw the best in people. She treated everyone she met with respect and kindness, having an abiding and genuine interest in their well-being. Wherever she went or worked, she made good friends easily.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Kirkman (Karen Jastrem) and Kim Kirkman (Hamilton Gillespie); five grandchildren, Father Kenneth Kirkman, of Endicott, N.Y., Matthew Kirkman and Kathleen Kirkman, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Christopher Gillespie, of Seattle, Wash., Robert Gillespie, of Dallas Texas, and Dr. Sawyer Gillespie (Hilary), of Seattle, Wash .; and great-grandchild Alexander (Sasha).

Services will be held at a later date due to the pandemic.
