Knapp To Teach Food Preservation In Brevard

Canning is a method of preserving food in which the food contents are processed and sealed in an airtight container (jars like Mason jars, and steel and tin cans). With the appearance of fresh produce in the garden, at the farmers' market and at roadside stands, it is time to begin thinking about home food preservation.

Family Consumer Science Extension Agent Renay Knapp will teach a series of classes throughout the summer and fall on how to preserve those fresh fruits, vegetables and meats.

There will be classes during the day as well as in the evening.

Workshops dates are:

•Pickles and Relishes, Aug. 6, two classes 2 p.m. or 6 p.m. Learn how to safely pickle vegetables and fruits to enjoy later.
