N.C. Unemployment Insurance Failures

I have been phone banking as a volunteer on Sam Edney’s campaign for the N.C. House. Generally, I ask the voter’s thoughts on what our Raleigh representatives should be working on for us.
One response was particularly disturbing: A voter who was out of work for four months due to COVID-19 had immediately filed a N.C. unemployment insurance (UI) claim when laid off. The person continued to look for work during that period, applying for more than 40 positions, and contacting NC-DES numerous times for status reports.
