Balsam Grove Playground

The Balsam Grove playground at the community center is still closed. Thanks for your cooperation.

Yard Sale

There will be a yard sale from 8 a.m. until noon, Aug. 8, at the Balsam Grove Community Center’s red building. All clothes will be half price. We will be following all CDC and N.C. Health and Human Service’s guidelines, so there will be no breakfast served and mask will be required. We will provide a disposable mask at the door if needed, but we encourage you to provide your own. We’ve done some cleaning out ourselves, so come see what’s new. All proceeds to benefit the Balsam Grove Community Club.

Church Decoration

Homecoming/Decoration is scheduled for Aug. 2. However, due to COVID-19, Homecoming will be canceled. Outdoor church/ Decoration will be held in the cemetery at 11 a.m., weather permitting. Bring a chair and please do not bring food. Prior to Aug. 2, please come and take old flowers from your family’s graves. If you would like to donate money to help with the cost of upkeep, there is a lockbox in the cemetery, or you can mail your contribution to Shoal Creek Baptist Church P.O. Box 289, Balsam Grove, N.C. 28708. Thank you.

Family Reunion Canceled

The Burton and Roxie Jones McCall family reunion for Sunday, Aug. 2, has been canceled due to COVID-19. We want everyone to be safe, and in order to do that the reunion must be canceled. Be looking forward to seeing everyone next year.

Pressure Gauge Checked

If you are planning to can your summer vegetables this summer and have a pressure canner with a gauge on it, you may take it to the N.C. Cooperative Extension Office at 106 E. Morgan St., Brevard, to be checked. This is a free service. You should have your canner checked each year before doing any canning.

Your gauge could be off, and you might have lost all of your hard work due to spoiling.

Notice

Just a reminder, if you have donations from your yard sales, please contact an officer of the community club to meet you at the community center to put it in the building. Items get ruined if they are just dropped off at the door, and then we have to pay to have it hauled off. We appreciate your cooperation. Calls may be made to Bernice Powell at 884-6058 or Carol Gardner at 884-6247 or any other officer.

God’s Way Food Pantry

We are no longer able to allow after hours pick-up. The food pantry is held every other Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The next food pantry will be Saturday, Aug. 8. Drive through service only. If you are sick or unable to come, call to have someone pick up for you. During the pantry hours, the folks at God’s Way will help with completing the 2020 Census.

Census

For more information about the census, contact Carol Gardner at 884-6247 or at carolclaytongardner@gmail.com.

Silver Sneakers On Zoom

Balsam Grove is using a Zoom class to continue its Silver Sneakers program. The program meets Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for visiting and exercise. If you have Silver Sneakers, it’s free! If not, it costs $5 per session. All you need is a device that connects to the internet and the Zoom app. We’ll even help you figure out the technology if you need help. For more information, contact Melissa McCall at 577-3724 or melissamccall@hotmail.com. It’s lots of fun.
