One reason members of the Transylvania County Board of Education voted to open schools under Plan B is the fact that at least 10 percent of the students do not have reliable internet connectivity. If the schools opened under an all virtual plan, those students would have been left behind.
In this respect, Transylvania County is not an anomaly. There are dozens of counties in this state in which the reach of reliable, broadband internet is comparable to, and in many cases far worse than, here.
