BFG Camp is located near several national and state forests providing abundant opportunities for wilderness exploration. Outings include horseback riding, guided trail hikes, creek exploration, visits to waterfalls, camping, swimming and more.

The Bound for Glory Camp (BFG) is excited to announce they received an $8,300 grant from The Lake Toxaway Charities. Lake Toxaway Charities' mission is to support the charities, medical outreach, and educators who work with and minister to the abused, disabled, indigent, and those with special needs in Transylvania County. The grant has helped to provide literacy coaches, counselors, and other program materials for the campers at Bound for Glory camp.

Bound for Glory camp is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization offering a free, summer camp for campers ages 9-12 who struggle with literacy skills and come from lower-income families. Their mission is to educate, enrich, and encourage underprivileged students struggling with reading by providing a free summer camp in a Christian environment.

Bound for Glory Camp (BFG) recently completed its 5th successful year of summer camp. COVID-19 presented new challenges for camp but the BFG staff implemented a secure COVID policy to ensure the health of everyone involved: literacy classes were moved online, participants were divided into smaller groups and met for outings twice a week, face masks were worn during transportation and indoor activities, daily temperature checks were taken, and hand washing and sanitizing were utilized often. Campers made much-needed progress in their literacy skills in word reading, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, and sentence writing.

Weekly outings such as horseback riding, a visit to a local farm, Kayaking, Hiking, and swimming offered fun learning experiences.

When asked what BFG Camp meant to them, campers responded:

"Bound for Glory Camp was fun. It was amazing to see each other because we haven't been able to because of COVID"

"It meant a lot to me. I really like this camp because it helped me learn more and be ready to go back to school."

"It was very fun, and it helped me learn about God and school. It is amazing, and I got to do fun stuff."

"I couldn't read my favorite book, "Dog Man," and now I can."

"I got closer to Jesus. By actually listening to Bible stories. It was like church to me because we haven't been able to go to church because of COVID."

We are grateful for Lake Toxaway Charities in making the Bound for Glory Camp a huge success this summer!
