Truman's Decision Saved Lives

Very few people would disagree with Scott Allan Baker (Transylvania Times, 8/10) concerning the horrors of a nuclear war. However, in reading Mr. Baker’s letter, I got the distinct impression that he was critical of President Truman’s decision to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After all, he did talk about Japanese workers going to their jobs in Hiroshima while schoolchildren were “laughing innocently as they rushed to school.”
